Original diagnosis/description
Flower solitary, bisexual, monochlamydous, with bilateral symmetry, arising from a single peduncle 7.5 mm in length; flower length, 5.0 mm, flower width (from tips of opposite tepals) 12.0 mm; tepals 16, all similar in texture, helically arranged on axis, tepal length, 2.7–8.0 mm, tepal width, 0.4–0.9 mm, tepal surfaces and peduncle densely covered with manicate pubescence, including hispid trichomes up to 80 μm long and stellate scales; stamens 12, distinct, separate, 1.0–1.3 mm in length, helically arranged, tips directed toward flower center; anthers tetrasporangiate, basifixed, 0.4–0.5 mm in length, pollen sacs embedded in inner surfaces of stamens; dehiscence columnar ; stamens positioned on inner-lateral edges of connectives that are apically extended; filaments free, short, wide, with 3 veinlets, bases composed, in part, of large parenchyma cells and white pulvinate tissue; pollen round to ovate, 11–14 μm in greatest dimension; style slender, short, 0.3 mm long, positioned in center of receptacle, stigma minute; fruit type unknown.
Etymology
The specific epithet from the Latin “latus” = broad and the Latin “fibra” = filament.
