Original diagnosis/description

Terrestrial rosette plant with spiral phyllotaxis; leaves dorsiventral, simple, sheathing and linear; leaf margin entire; leaf venation parallel with two orders of venation; roots fasciculate; inflorescence terminal, scapiflorous, an umbel of spikes with involucral bracts; perianth and androecium unknown; gynoecium superior, three-carpellate; carpels sessile, one style, short; fruit non-fleshy.
