Original diagnosis/description

As for the genus with the following additions: bracts and bracteoles of partial inflorescence strongly keeled, epidermal cells with undulate anticlinal walls, unicellular trichomes; tepals basally united, ovate, served by three vascular bundles that unite within base of tepal, tip hood-shaped, aestivation probably quincuncial, epidermal cells with undulate anticlinal walls, unicellular trichomes on abaxial side; anthers with unicellular trichomes apically, epidermal cells with undulate anticlinal walls, filaments long and slender; pollen with polar thinning on one side and plicae on other side, apertures short and protruding, sculptural elements of exine surface verrucate to gemmate; stigma restricted, with unicellular trichomes; ovary with scattered glandular trichomes, fruits probably 1-seeded.

Etymology

Normanthus miraensis, spec. nov. The specific epithet refers to the town of Mira in Portugal, close to which the fossil flowers were found.
