Epigynous flower square in cross section with awl-shaped projections in each corner beginning at the base above the pedicel, connected by a lamina; base flat to slightly rounded; center with hair-like projections.

Etymology

The genus is Latin for “four awl flower” (“quadra-” for “four”, “-subula-” for “awl” and “-flora” for “flower”).
