Original diagnosis/description
Short, linear, entire leaves with smooth, rounded apex, crowdedly borne around the shoot apex. Distinct ridge of ligule base spanning the full width of the leaf. Leaf lamina shed along with sheath. Open leaf scars arranged distichously on surface of fine stem.
Stratigraphy
Neogene, Miocene
in the lower part of the Toyohama Formation (Kondo and Kimura, 1987), Morozaki Group. The Toyohama Formation is estimated to be approximately 18.0–17.6 Ma in age, based on diatom, foraminiferal, and paleomagnetic data (Ito et al., 1999).
