Types

Original diagnosis/description

Emended diagnosis

Partly according to Alvin (1977). Segmented axes consisting of nodes and internodes. Branching penultimate, somewhat zigzag. Each segment bearing whorls of three laterally fused leaves, short free leaf tips round with marginal fringe of trichomes sheathing nodal area. Adaxial cuticle thin with irregularly spaced stomata surrounded by four subsidiary cells. Abaxial cuticle of older internodes smooth or wrinkled, younger internodes papillate. Stomata arranged in irregularly spaced rows with 1–4 ordinary cells between each row, rows somewhat obscure due to rather distant spacing of stomata; in apical parts of internodes stomata arranged irregularly. Stomata surrounded by four to five subsidiary cells. Stomatal chamber rounded to elliptical in outline, surrounded by circular Florin rings. Florin rings sometimes obscurely lobed, the number of lobes equalling the number of subsidiary cells. Two short, wide papillae in the throat of the pit, frequently occluded by a plug.
