Original diagnosis/description

Fruit a samara, consisting of a globose nutlet adjoined equatorially by 4 (rarely 5 or 6) conspicuous elongate-spatulate wings with subparallel dichotomizing venation. Four free, persistent, sepals arise from the apical 1/3 of the nutlet and surround 2 elongate style arms. Nutlet unilocular, with the seed 4-lobed basally due to the presence of incomplete primary and secondary septa.
