Original diagnosis/description

Ovules/seeds oval in shape, drupaceous, erect in position; fertile bract present; ovule complex, subtended by fertile bract; ovuliferous scale encloses ovules/seeds; integument differentiated into three layers: sarcotesta with thin-walled cells, fleshy sclerotesta with thick walled cells, and endotesta thin and fleshy; ovuliferous scale (epimatium) entirely fused with integument and indistinguishable from it. Nucellus with nucellar pad at base; except at base it is free from integument; megasporangium with two distinct archegonia in apical region. Nucellus with nucellar beak in apical region, nucellar beak (tentpole) has trough-like broad base.
