Original diagnosis/description

Fruiting units semicircular to obovate in outline, with a straight or slightly convex ventral margin; fruiting units without wing or with collapsed cuticle of fruit wall forming a narrow wing-like rim around seed; epidermal cells of fruit wall small, each frequently with a central, papillate projection. Seed semicircular to obovate in outline, with slightly pointed micropylar area; outer cells of testa cuboid, with infillings showing honeycomb-like pattern.

From Maryland, the state where the fossils were collected.
