Original diagnosis/description

Frond bipinnate, asymmetric with one side larger than the other. Frond rachis nearly straight, very delicately flexuous distally, sporadically covered by hairs or ramentum proximally, ultimate rachis naked. Pinnules asymmetrical, elongate-oval in shape, varying in size, having reduced pinnule lamina, from pinnatifid to deeply lobate. Lobes separate, not touching. Pinnules differing on acroscopic and basiscopic sides of ultimate pinnae. Midvein slightly flexuous. Lateral veins terminating close to pinnule lobe margin.
Fertile frond with some pinnule lobes terminated by single sorus situated between two arms of dichotomizing lateral veins. Sori marginal in pouches formed by a combination indusium to insides and part of pinnule lamina to outside. Marginal sori with 8–10 annulate sporangia, each ca. 240 μm in diameter with annulus up to 15 cells. In situ spores trilete, 27–30 μm in diameter, having trilete mark, scabrate surface and concave areas between laesurae.

Etymology

The specific epithet marekgaltieri is named in honor of 1) Doc. Jaroslav Marek, who found the holotype specimen and 2) Prof. Jean Galtier, to whom this special volume is dedicated. They both influenced us significantly during our palaeontological research.
