Original diagnosis/description

Seeds winged; main seed body (without wing) ovate to broadly ovate in outline, rounded or slightly angular at the base and with acuminate apex. Raphe narrow; raphe sinus broad and distinct, ovate in outline. Wing woody, thick, without secretory cells. Outer surface of seed faintly striate and rugose. Endotesta with two layers of strongly lignified palisade-shaped sclerenchyma cells with rare imprints of small, cubic crystals.
