Types

Original diagnosis/description

Main seed body elliptical to ovate in outline, apically obtuse with a distinct acuminate micropylar beak, and basally acute to rounded; raphe sinus wide and deep, ovate in outline with distinct margins. Surface of endotesta smooth on ventral side while strongly ribbed on dorsal side of seed with 6–7 longitudinal ridges. Endotesta thick consisting of one layer of straight palisade-shaped sclerenchyma cells.

Etymology

From Lat. costatus (ribbed) referring to the ribbed testa of the seed.
