Original diagnosis/description
Leaves linear, gradually tapering towards apex, apex acute. Leaf margins serrate. Lamina inserted laterally, of various widths, from well developed with smaller teeth to strongly reduced, almost limited to prominent teeth. Teeth sharp, of strongly varying length and shape, sometimes ending with spikesspines. Variation deemed transitional from proximal to distal along margin. Venation well marked, midrib wide, up to about half the width of the leaf, tapering towards apex. On abaxial side slightly sunken, tripartite with ridge at center (?vascular bundle). Midrib flanked by protruding edges of lamina. On adaxial side, midrib concave or in plane with lamina, exposed, sometimes with slightly protruding vascular bundle at center. Lateral veins simple, running to margins. Lamina V -shaped in transverse section.
Cells on adaxial side elongated, with straight cell walls, arranged in longitudinal rows; on abaxial side irregular with cell walls straight or undulate. Cuticles of both surfaces bear numerous randomly distributed one-celled trichome bases.
