Original diagnosis/description
Wood diffuse porous; vessels exclusively solitary (90% or more), and small to very small (<100 μm); simple perforation plates; small, vestured, alternate, and roundedintervesselpits;vessel–raypittingwithdistinctborders, similar to intervessel pits in size and shape throughout the ray cell; vascular/vasicentric tracheids present; fibres with distinctly bordered pits; axial parenchyma apotracheal diffuse and diffuse-in-aggregates, ca. 3–7 cells per parenchyma strand; rays 1–3-seriate, heterocellular with body ray cells procumbent with 2–4 or over 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells, or procumbent, upright, and square cells mixed throughout the ray, disjunctive ray parenchyma cell walls present.
Etymology
The specific epithet “ragoneseae” comes from to Ana María Ragonese, an Argentinean botanist and palaeobotanist who studied the morphology and wood anatomyof fossil Myrtaceae.
