Types for basionym

Original diagnosis/description

The strobilus appears to have been originally cylindrical in shape, but is now much flattened. The upper portion is missing. The width in the present condition is 3.5 cm. It is characterized by deciduous, antrorsely induplicate spines 3 cm. in length, 2 mm. in width, and slightly constricted at the base. The peltate tip of the scale is attached to a four-angled stalk which holds the sporangia. If the spine is missing from the peltate tip, a semicircular notch is present in the upper margin. Oval seedlike bodies near the base of the strobilus are believed to represent megasporangia.
