Original diagnosis/description

Seed small, orthotropous, and chlamydospermous. Seed envelope bivalved, ovoid to spherical, with a rounded base, with subtle longitudinal ridges and finer striations formed by the narrow, longitudinally elongate outer sclerenchyma cells. Robust outer cuticle covers the seed envelope, epidermis composed of relatively large, longitudinally elongate rectangular cells, lacks stomata. Seed envelope consists of an inner zone, composed of several layers of compressed sclerenchyma, and an outer zone, composed of thin, fibrous sclerenchyma extended radially and longitudinally. Integument thin, poorly preserved inside the seed envelope. Seed envelope extended and tapered in the micropylar region into a short, collar-like extension that surrounds and supports the micropylar tube. Micropylar tube open at the apex and closed farther down by the inner epidermal cells of the micropylar tube expanded into the center of the canal. Inside of seed envelope, including in the micropylar projection around the micropylar tube, smooth, without papillae.

Etymology

The genus is named in honor of paleobotanist Natalya Nosova (St. Petersburg) for her many contributions to paleobotany, especially fossil plants from the Mesozoic of Central Asia.
