Original diagnosis/description

Fibrous endocarp with 5–6 equal sized locules, each provided with apical recessed bilabiate germination mechanism, alternating with lacunae that are “whale-tail shaped” in cross section; a central vascular system composed of 5–6 bundles, each associated with a distinct locule; each locule containing a slightly reniform seed. Locular envelopes becoming progressively thicker toward the distal side, composed of vertical fibers.

Etymology

“Palaeo” refers to the ancient age of the fossils, and “choerospondias” indicates a potential affinity with the extant genus.
