Original diagnosis/description

Unipinnate leaves with an often forked rachis. Rachis stout and longitudinally striate. Pinnae sub-oppositely and laterally attached by their whole bases to the axis, both before and after the dichotomy, at a 45° or higher degree angle, slightly separated fromeach other, in some cases touching at their bases, but never imbricating. Pinnae long, linear to sub-rectangular, length to width ratio equal or greater than 3:1, apex rounded to obtuse. Numerous distinct veins inserted directly on the rachis, in some cases decurrent at the base, running almost parallel to themargins, reaching the apexwith very few dichotomies. Cuticle thick, with irregular to isodiametric epidermis cells, randomly arranged trichomes bases and monocyclic stomata. Stomata constituted by two sunken guard cells surrounded by 4–6 (usually 5) subsidiary cells fused to form a ring-like thickening.

Etymology

“Longifolia” alluding to its long pinnae.
