Original diagnosis/description

Fossil plants thalloid. Thallus forming partial rosettes. Surface cell pattern with air pores surrounded by one concentric ring of cells. Ventral scales in two rows. Upper surface with enclosed sporophytes not bounded by involucres.

Etymology

The generic name refers to the similar extant subgenus Ricciella of the genus Riccia.
